A popular dessert wine, bright mahogany in colour with a gold-green rim. The bouquet is lifted with raisin and toffee aromas. The palate is smooth and luscious and layered with flavours of caramel, dried fruit and roasted nuts. Many years ageing in old oak casks has produced rancio complexity and a very long, persistent finish.
"Expressive on the nose, with attractive aromas of grinded coffee beans, molasses, toffee, oatmeal biscuits ginger and complex rancio character. Rich and unctuous."
Judges, Decanter World Wine Awards 2023
“Deepish tawny-brown colour with russet tints and a yellow-green rim. The bouquet is intensely muscaty and concentrated, while the taste is rich and sweet, lusciously rounded and supple, with lots of viscosity and vibrant fruit in the centre, its freshness assisted by clean acidity. The muscat fruit is very present yet the wine has considerable aged complexity from older blending wines. A lovely drinking muscat.”
Huon Hooke, The Real Review 2022
“Freshness is the key. Full flavoured complexity. Watch out Rutherglen.”
Judge, Wine Show of Western Australia 2017
“A very good example of this style of wine. Has developed a high degree of lusciousness with ripe caramel and honeyed dried fruits. Multi-layered and deep and concentrated with a warm palate-coating viscosity. Has started to show some classic muscat rancio which comes with extended ageing in old oak before bottling. Great to see the style. ” 93/100
