We are proud to share that our 2023 Reserve Shiraz has been awarded a Gold Medal and 95 points at the 2026 Decanter World Wine Awards in London.
It is wonderful international recognition for a wine that had already been named Best Shiraz and Best Red Wine of Show at the 2025 Wine Show of Western Australia.
For this small block of old Wilyabrup vines to receive such strong recognition both at home and internationally is something very special.
Gralyn Estate has been crafting Shiraz in Margaret River since 1979. The 2023 Reserve Shiraz comes from less than two acres of old, dry-grown estate vines planted in 1975 by Annette’s father, Graham.
The block sits beside the family home on Caves Road in Wilyabrup and has quietly produced some of our most distinctive and highly awarded wines over the years.
Only six barrels of the 2023 Reserve Shiraz were produced.
The wine shows the elegance, power and balance we see from these old vines, with lifted blackberry, plum, spice and cedary oak. The palate is supple and beautifully balanced, with layers of ripe black fruits, savoury spice, fine oak integration and structured tannins leading to a long, persistent finish.
The Decanter judges described the wine as:
“Understated autumn leaves, pressed lavender, Mediterranean herbs and blue fruits quietly compel with effortless ease. Fine and silky with pomegranate acidity and a plush length.”
This Gold Medal and 95-point result is important recognition for the wine beyond Australia.
It follows an outstanding result at the 2025 Wine Show of Western Australia, where the 2023 Reserve Shiraz was awarded both Best Shiraz and Best Red Wine of Show.
Wine critic Ray Jordan also awarded the wine 96 points, describing it as:
“There is a brilliance and brightness about this shiraz that comes off some very old Wilyabrup vines… One of the most elegant shiraz yet from Gralyn.”
Small block. Small batch. Big reputation.
Reading the judges’ comments, we will certainly be opening a bottle tonight to celebrate.
